芳綸纖維全稱為"聚對苯二甲酰對苯二胺",英文為Aramid fiber（杜邦公司的商品名為Kevlar），是一種新型高科技合成纖維，具有超高強度、高模量和耐高溫、耐酸耐堿、重量輕等優良性能,其強度是鋼絲的 5～6倍 ，模量為鋼絲或玻璃纖維的2～3倍，韌性是鋼絲的2倍，而重量僅為鋼絲的1/5左右，在560度的溫度下，不分解，不融化。它具有良好的絕緣性和抗老化性能，具有很長的生命周期。芳綸的發現，被認為是材料界一個非常重要的歷史進程。
芳綸水刺無紡布含有芳綸纖維高撕裂強力，防火隔熱的功能。是相關高熱，高強工作防護服的首選。
